National Minimum Wage

 

From 1st October 2007, the rates for the National Minimum Wage are

  • Under 16 National Minimum Wage is not applicable
  • 16 & 17 years old (if no longer compulsory school age) £3.40 per hour
  • 18-21 years old £4.60 per hour
  • 22 years old and older £5.52 per hour

 

From 1st October 2008, the rates for National Minimum Wage are

  • Under 16 National Minimum Wage is not applicable
  • 16 & 17 years old (if no longer compulsory school age) £3.53 per hour
  • 18-21 years old £4.77 per hour
  • 22 years old and older £5.73 per hour

 

Rates change each October.

You may choose to pay your employee more than the National Minimum Wage.

Some exemption rules may apply.

Currently, the local Learning & Skills Council recommend a pay level of at least £80 per week for Apprentices.
