In the job market
Once your son or daughter has started training or a job Connexions Personal Advisers will still be available to help if they need help or advice, e.g. if the training is not going as well as hoped or if they would like time off for study or training (this study or training is available to young people aged 16 or 17 who do not have at least 5 GCSE passes at A* -C).
Understanding the job market - information for parents and carers
Knowing about the job market can help young people to make informed decisions about their choices in learning and work. The leaflet Job Market Information for Parents and Carers should help you, as a parent or carer, to get a better understanding of the job market, so you can support your child with the decisions they face. It also gives ways you can find out more about the current and future job market, such as talking to a Connexions adviser and visiting website's with job market information.
However, please note that job market information comes from many different places, so it's important to remember that individual pieces of information tell only part of the story. Please also remember that forecasts about future job market trends, while based on facts and figures, are only forecasts.
The job market can be affected by unexpected changes such as recessions and times of quick economic growth.
Finally, if your child has several years of education left then please be aware that the current job market conditions may have changed by the time they enter the job market.
