Determined to Succeed in Admin
I missed a lot of time from school due to ill health and I sometimes felt that I’d never actually be able to have a proper career or make a success of my life. In year 9 I met a Personal Adviser from Connexions, and she helped me to think about what I wanted to do when I left school. I didn’t want to go on to university, and she helped me find information on different jobs and learning.
Just as I was finishing doing my A’Levels, I found out that Connexions were advertising for an apprentice. I never thought I’d be in with a chance, so I was absolutely delighted when I got the phone-call to say that my interview had been successful. I started work just a week after sitting my final exam.
I’ve now finished my apprenticeship, and gained NVQ Level 2 in Administration. I’ve just been promoted to a job in Connexions working with local employers, to help them recruit and train young people. I’m loving it! My long-term goals are to train as a Connexions Personal Adviser so that I can help other people to achieve their dream. I never thought I’d be turning up for work in a busy office, holding down a professional job, but if you believe in yourself and get the right help, it’s amazing what you can achieve.
