Halton Opportunities Fair

Connexions staff and partners are busy preparing for this year's Halton Opportunities Fair, which takes place Wednesday 7th February 2007 at Halton Stadium.
The event is targeted at Halton young people aged 15 to 19 raising awareness of education, employment and work based learning opportunities. Young people can also find out about social, community and voluntary agencies in the area that offer support and advice on a range of issues.
This year, over 400 young people are anticipated, and a total of 35 exhibitors will offer ideas and opportunities. This includes the Armed Forces, local education and Work Based Learning providers and NHS to name just a few.
Feedback from last year's event was extremely positive. Connexions was delighted to see an increase in the number of exhibitors offering apprenticeship and jobs than in previous years, as well as input from voluntary agencies and supported employment providers.
The local educational institutes (Riverside College) will showcase its creative subjects by performing DJ session, fashion shows, catwalks and a production of drama. This provides young people with an insight into the exciting possibilities presented by such courses.
Last years event received a lot of positive feedback from Widnes young people, age 16-18 not in work based learning or unemployed, with over 10% visiting the event. Many of them left excited about the varied opportunities available. Steve Conley, Connexions Additional Services Manager, said "We've got good working relations with partners in Halton which enables us to draw this together and showcase some of the exciting opportunities in the area. Last year was fantastic but this year we're striving to make it even bigger and better".
