Making Japanese Connexions
A group of Japanese delegates from the Regional Development Agency in Tokyo came to Merseyside in October to learn about how they can help their young people in jobs and training.
The visitors spent time at Connexions in Liverpool looking at the work which has been done to encourage young people to take up opportunities in education, employment and training. Operations Director Dave Howard said “This was a great opportunity and we were delighted to receive a request from the Japanese Government. Connexions is happy to be involved and we look forward to hearing how their service develops in the future”.

Employment opportunities for young people in Japan have suffered a continual decline during recent years with the number of young people not in education, employment or training also increasing. Yurie Fujihara, who represented the Japanese visitors, said: “We have looked at the Connexions system and we believe it is a good example and an excellent model for us to work on and follow. We have learned a great deal from our visit to Merseyside, and we were especially impressed by the system that has been developed to track and record information about young people”.
