St Helens Eastern Cluster - Learner Voice Conference
The first ever Eastern Cluster Learner Voice Conference was recently held at Haydock Park Racecourse. Pupils were bussed in from schools based in the Eastern Cluster area and the number of young people attending the event exceeded all expectations.
Connexions worked closely with partners to make the event a huge success and Personal Advisers were on hand throughout the day to deliver workshops and help the event run smoothly.
Sessions included the ‘Logo Lab’ for the Gateway project - a funky and creative activity based experience, and the ‘How to get that Job’ session which was both engaging and educational, providing information on interview techniques, employment legislation and involved young people in a mock interview process.
Young people enjoyed taking on the role of the interviewers, interviewing two prospective Personal Advisers who were not given an easy ride! Another popular workshop was organised in partnership with the Youth Service where young people engaged in a direct forum with the Mayor and elected members asking the questions that matter to them.
The day provided young people educated in the Eastern Cluster Area with the opportunity to have ‘one voice’ on education in their area.
Valuable feedback received from the young people in the evaluation, will help partners make the next event even more exciting and engaging. One young person commented “I wasn't’ too sure I would enjoy today, but it’s been really interesting. I think we should be asked for our opinions more often, it’s been good fun too.”
