Raising Aspirations at Everton FCEverton FC

Ten lucky young people from Wirral were given the opportunity to spend some time at Everton FC’s Football ground to take a peak behind the scenes. The activity was part of a ‘Raising Aspirations for E2E Learners Programme’, giving young people first hand experience of what actually goes on in different industries.

The group spent three days at Goodison learning about the different job roles and vocational areas which are important within the football club (hospitality, retail, admin, IT, conferencing, PR, etc). While they were there they work-shadowed a range of Everton employees to find out about their roles, and were able to ask questions about how they got the job and how they have developed in the role.

Young people soon realised that there’s a lot more to football than the action on the pitch!

The programme also included tickets to the match on Saturday 12th January against Man City (which Everton won 1-0!). This gave the group the opportunity to see how all that work behind the scenes comes together on match day. Becky Hughes and Suzanne Williams, from the Wirral NEET Hotspot team supported the young people during their visit. Feedback has been very positive and some of the young people are already reconsidering their career aspirations as a result of the positive role models they met at Everton. The programme has been a huge success. Elizabeth Hartley – NEET Hotspot Project Manager
